Joints and board connections
Rockpanel board material retains its shape as it is able to withstand dampness and changes in temperature. This allows it to be used seamlessly under certain conditions:
- Only for use around the roof, such as to finish guttering, for fascia boards and rooflines
- Up to a maximum length of 15 metres
- A timber sub-frame is used with vertical slats to prevent the sub-frame from warping
- The sub-frame timber is protected by using gaskets on the sub-frame for all joints
- Dilation joints are used throughout the Rockpanel construction
The following guidelines apply when installing the boards:
- Rockpanel is dimensionally stable, and therefore resistant to changes in length and width. When constructing keep in mind that other materials expand or contract to varying degrees compared to Rockpanel boards.
- Boards, assembly and building tolerances play an important role in the joint detail. Take this into account.
- Apply weather-resistant joint tape to the seams to protect the back construction against weather influences. In horizontal use of Rockpanel Lines, horizontal seams are automatically covered by the overlying strip and no additional finishing of the seam is necessary.
- The joints should be such that sufficient ventilation and/or drainage is ensured in order to prevent damage as a result of retained moisture.
